🧈Ingredients
See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.
- Mini marshmallows. For the ooiest, gooiest rice krispies treats, use a fresh bag of marshmallows.
- Gel food coloring. Gel food coloring has a more vibrant color than liquid food coloring. If all you have is liquid food coloring, you'll need to add more and may not get the same saturated color.
- Melted chocolate drizzle. I use Ghirardelli white candy melts for the white chocolate drizzle and colored candy melts for the red and blue. Colored candy melts are the easiest way to get brightly colored melted chocolate, but you can also color melted white chocolate with oil-based food coloring (regular or gel food coloring won't work). I find colored candy melts at Michael's, JoAnn Fabrics, WalMart, and Amazon.
- Oil. You may need to add a little oil to the melted candy to get it to the right drizzling consistency. I like shortening because it dries harder than liquid oil, but you can also use vegetable oil or coconut oil.
🥣How to Make 4th of July Rice Krispies Treats
Step 1: Melt butter and marshmallows in the microwave. Stir and add red food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture. Add rice krispies and more mini marshmallows and stir until combined.
Step 2: With a buttered spatula or buttered fingers, press the red cereal mixture into a greased Bundt pan.
Step 3: Repeat Step 1 in a clean bowl with no food coloring. Press the mixture on top of the red layer.
Step 4: Repeat with blue food coloring and press the blue rice krispies on top of the white layer. Cool. Loosen the treats from the pan with a plastic knife and invert them onto a plate.
Step 5: Melt red, white, and blue candy melts in the microwave with a little oil. Drizzle on top of the rice krispie treats.
Step 6: Add red, white, and blue sprinkles while the melted chocolate is still wet. Allow to set until firm. For clean slices, cut with a sharp knife.
👉Top Tip: Top Tip: The marshmallow cereal mixture is STICKY. Use buttered fingers and spatulas to keep it from sticking.
✅Tips
- Adjust the food coloring until you achieve your desired hue. I used about 1 teaspoon of each color.
- Don't press the cereal mixture into the pan too firmly or the rice krispie treats will be hard.
- Place the finished rice krispies cake in the fridge to help the melted chocolate firm up more quickly.
🎁Storage
Store leftover Fourth of July rice krispie treats at room temperature in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap for 2-3 days.
Freeze rice krispie treats without the toppings for up to 3 weeks. Thaw at room temperature and add the chocolate drizzle and sprinkles before serving.

Nothing beats a fresh batch of gooey rice krispie treats. But if you are planning ahead for a party, 4th of July rice krispies treats can be made a couple of days ahead of time.
