Funfetti Cake Pops are a super cute sweet treat that's completely no bake! And so simple -- all you need are a few items from the grocery store!
🌈Ingredients
See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.
- Pound cake. Pound cake is the perfect cake for these easy cake pops because it's dense and holds together well when rolled into balls. I use store-bought pound cake, but you can also use homemade pound cake.
- Frosting. It doesn't get much easier than a can of store-bought frosting, but you can use homemade frosting, too.
- Rainbow sprinkles. Jimmies, long, tube-shaped sprinkles, are the best choice to use inside the cake pops because they won't bleed. Use any kind of sprinkles for decorating the outside. I like rainbow nonpareils.
- Candy coating. I like Ghirardelli vanilla melting wafers. You can also use white chocolate chips.
- Oil. Have a little vegetable oil or shortening ready if you need it to thin the melted chocolate. I start with 1 teaspoon per cup and adjust as needed.
🥣How to Make Funfetti Cake Pops
Step 1: Crumble the entire cake into a large bowl until there are no large pieces left. Mix the jimmies and frosting into the cake crumbs with your hands or a mixer until they form a soft dough.
Step 2: Roll cake mixture into balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Chill for at least one hour.
Step 3: Melt candy melts according to package instructions in a deep, medium bowl. Work with a few cake balls at a time, leaving the rest chilled. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into the melted candy melts and push bottom of stick into a cake ball.
Step 4: Dunk the cake ball all the way into the melted candy until it is completely coated. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove excess melted chocolate.
Step 5: Immediately cover the wet candy coating with colored sprinkles. Place the cake pop upright in a box with holes or a weighted glass (see tips).
Candy coating will be set in about an hour.
👉Top Tip: Let the melted candy cool for a minute or two after heating. Dipping very cold cake balls into very hot melted chocolate can cause the chocolate coating to crack.
☑️Tips
- Add just enough frosting to bind the crumbled cake together into a ball -- too much frosting can make cake pops soft.
- If you use a box cake mix or homemade cake or frosting, you may need a different amount of frosting. Start with less and add until it comes together like Play-Doh.
- Stand cake pops upright into a box with holes, a block of styrofoam or craft foam, or small glasses or mason jars weighted down with rice, beans, sugar, etc.
- Instead of using lollipop sticks, you can also place funfetti cake pops in mini cupcake liners.
🎁Storage
- Store funfetti cake balls in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about one week.
- Freeze completed funfetti cake pops for up to 6 weeks and thaw in the refrigerator.
📅Make Ahead
Store cake balls without candy coating in the refrigerator for 2 days or freeze for 6 weeks. Thaw in the refrigerator.

📖 Recipe
Funfetti Cake Pops
Equipment
- 28 Lollipop sticks
Ingredients
- 16 ounce Sara Lee classic pound cake, thawed
- ½ cup vanilla frosting
- ¼ cup jimmies
- 10 ounces white melting wafers
- 1-2 teaspoons oil as needed for thinning melted candy
- More sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, crumble pound cake until there are no large pieces. Mix the jimmies and frosting in with your hands or a mixer at medium speed until combined into a soft dough.
- Roll one tablespoon portions into balls and place them on a wax paper or parchment-lined baking sheet. Chill for at least one hour in the refrigerator. Re-roll the balls to smooth out any flat spots.
- In a deep bowl or glass measuring cup, melt white candy melts in the microwave according to the package directions. Add a little oil if needed to thin it out, starting with 1 tsp.
- Work with a few cake balls at a time, leaving the rest in the refrigerator. Dip about ½" of a cake pop stick into the melted chocolate, then insert it about halfway into a cake ball. Dunk the cake ball into the candy coating until it is completely covered. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove any excess melted chocolate.
- Immediately add sprinkles while the coating is still wet and place the cake pop upright to dry into a box with holes or weighted-down glasses (see notes). The candy coating will be set in about an hour.
Notes
- To hold the cake pops upright while they dry, poke small holes into a box or styrofoam block or weigh down short mason jars or glasses with something like sugar, rice, or beans.
- Too much frosting can make cake pops soft. Start with a little and add until the mixture forms a soft dough.
- If you use a box cake mix or homemade cake or frosting, you may need a different amount of frosting.
- Let the melted candy cool for a minute or two after heating. Dipping very cold cake balls into very hot melted chocolate can cause the chocolate coating to crack.
